What I did not like:

we’re given bits and pieces about Shenn’s race and history throughout the story and it felt weird-there could have been a prologue about Shenn’s race telling us how special they are etc. Or maybe something telling us a little bit more about the world this story is set in.

the ending felt abrupt and incomplete-and yeah, I know there’s supposed to be a sequel.

when Shenn meets Marek after such a long time, how he failed to ask about his wife is beyond me.



What I liked:

several reviewers on GR had issues with some words-like boards-being used for several things but I loved it. A pirate will talk like he wants to and won’t change his ways just so readers can understand him better.

the book began perfectly and I had a vision of the hanging scene from one of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies!

it was the right length.

the inclusion of religion only added to the authenticity of the world being built.

I enjoyed reading this book a lot
